Clive Cussler has a military background having served in the United States Air Force and in the Military Air Transport Service.
He began his writing career in 1965 and perhaps his most famous set of books involves the leading character called James Pitt, an adventurer involved in a series of amazing plot lines featuring high technology devices, villains with dreams of world domination, shipwrecks, beautiful women, and searches for underwater treasure. A bit of a nautical James Bond!!
Cussler's story lines strongly feature his main interest in life, underwater exploration and in particular the search for shipwrecks. He has written many non-fiction books and articles on this topic and he is the founder of the National Underwater and Marine Agency (NUMA).
NUMA is real life agency, however Clive Cussler has also featured NUMA within his books, specifically in the NUMA files set of novels which were co-written with Paul Kemprecos.
Blue Gold is the second release from the NUMA Files book series. The series is based around a main character, Kurt Austin head of NUMA's Special Projects division and his adventures. The story is based on a plot by a Californian tycoon to gain control of the world's water supply and world domination risking mass murder along the way. Throw in the legend of a white goddess with a stange tribe and some incredible technical gadgets and you have a throroughly riveting listen.
Golden Bhudda (2003) and the Sacred Stone (2004) are from the Oregon Files series of books co-written by Clive Cussler with Craig Dirgo. The Oregon has the appearance of a rusty wreck of a freight liner but actually acts as a disguise for a high technology spy ship manned by a group know as The Corporation under the command of the series hero, Juan Cabrillo. The Corporation take on missions for the CIA and other groups to fight organised crime, world terrorism and various madmen trying to take over the world.
In the Golden Bhudda, the Corporation are tasked to search and find a statue which contains the secret location of massive oil reserves. The information is required to safeguard the future of Tibet (highly topical given current events). The Oregon sails to Macau in order to tackle the main villian of the piece, the billionaire Stanley Ho.
Sacred Stone is the follow up story after the Golden Buddha. The Corporation are tasked with providing security for the leader of Qatar as he attends a conference in Iceland. The team also need to locate a lost nuclear device and collect a piece of radioactive meteorite. The Sacred Stone plot has a series of seemingly unconnected plots that slowly piece together snd build up to an incredible conclusion as the story unfolds.
